The Foundation established this lectureship to honor Dr. Kitzhaber's nationally recognized contributions to the citizens of Oregon as State Senator and Governor through his pioneering leadership in legislating the Oregon Health Plan. This lectureship focuses on issues related to economics and public policy in healthcare.

The 2010 John Kitzhaber, M.D., Lectureship on Healthcare Policy was held on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Portland Hilton Hotel. The speaker was Elliott Fisher, M.D., of the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice.  Dr. Fisher's talk was entitled "Advancing Accountable Care in the Era of Reform."
