Created 1996In 1996, The Foundation and the School of Medicine, OHSU, honored these internist-educators for their exceptional contributions to the profession, the School of Medicine as Deans, and The Foundation by establishing this visiting professorship, which concentrates on medical education.
The 2011 John A. Benson, Jr., M.D. & John W. Kendall, Jr., M.D. Visiting Professorship was held Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at OHSU. This year's speaker was David Reuben, M.D., Professor and Chair Department of Geriatric Medicine, University of California at Los Angeles.

Created 2000In 2000 The Foundation recognized John Alsever, M.D., for his outstanding achievements and valued contributions to The Foundation For Medical Excellence, Salem Hospital and its Medical Staff, Marion-Polk County Medical Society, Mid-Valley IPA, Salem Clinic, Oregon Medical Association, American Medical Association, and the greater health care community. This lectureship focuses on physician well-being and is convened as a lecture permanently associated with The Foundation's annual conference on physician well-being.
The 2010 John Alsever, M.D. Family Lectureship was held as part of the Foundation's annual conference on Physician Well-Being, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Alderbrook Resort & Spa in Union, Washington. The guest lecturer was Lee Lipsenthal, M.D.

Created 1993The Foundation established this lectureship to honor Dr. Kitzhaber's nationally recognized contributions to the citizens of Oregon as State Senator and Governor through his pioneering leadership in legislating the Oregon Health Plan. This lectureship focuses on issues related to economics and public policy in healthcare. The 2010 John Kitzhaber, M.D., Lectureship on Healthcare Policy was held on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Portland Hilton Hotel. The speaker was Elliott Fisher, M.D., of the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. Dr. Fisher's talk was entitled "Advancing Accountable Care in the Era of Reform."

In 1987, The Foundation for Medical Excellence recognized the seminal contributions of this Portland psychiatrist and leader, and his longstanding contributions to Oregon Health Decisions and The Foundation, including the suggestion that there be a Foundation, by creating its first lectureship in his name. This lectureship focuses on public values in healthcare, mainly by editors of healthcare publications.

Menashe Healthcare Leadership Forum to recognize his valued contributions to The Foundation as well as his role as President/CEO and Chairman of the Board of BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon. This lectureship is directed at issues surrounding leadership.

William B. Webber Lectureship |

Created April 1990 William B. Webber, former Vice President at Tektronix, served as Chairman of The Foundation for three consecutive terms (1986-88). In April 1990, The Foundation honored Mr. Webber's outstanding contributions by creating this lectureship. This lectureship considers issues related to physician well-being.
The William B. Webber Lectureship will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011 from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Old Library Auditorium at OHSU. William Gunderman, MD, will be this year's lecturer. Dr. Gunderman is Associate Professor of Radiology, Pediatrics, Medical Education, Philosophy, Liberal Arts and Philanthropy at Indiana University.

created 2006 The Foundation for Medical Excellence and the physicians and staff at The Doctors Clinic, Mid-Valley IPA and Salem Hospital established this lectureship to honor the distinguished career of William E. Drips, Jr., M.D. and to recognize his many outstanding contributions to the profession of medicine and to the medical community on a local, state and national level. This annual lecture will feature speakers of national prominence who will address current clinical issues and topics in health care policy to the medical community of the greater Salem area and northern Williamette Valley.
The 2010 William E. Drips, Jr., M.D., Lectureship was held on Friday, April 30, 2010, at Salem Hospital Grand Rounds. This year's speaker was Richard Gunderman, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Gunderman who addressed "Wellsprings of Personal and Professional Resilience."
